A practical keyboard finger-placement guide
Finger-placement guides provide a reference, not a rigid rule for every body or keyboard. Begin with a comfortable position and adapt to your actual layout.
Use the home row as a landmark
On QWERTY, the left hand begins near A S D F and the right near J K L semicolon. The raised F and J marks help locate the position without looking. Thumbs can rest near the space bar.
Learn reaches in small groups
Add nearby keys slowly and return to a familiar position between words. Use the opposite Shift key when that feels comfortable. A short sequence with deliberate movement is more informative than a long drill of guesses.
Respect input-method differences
A physical key can produce different text depending on the installed layout or phonetic input method. The English QWERTY illustration does not prescribe a Bengali, Hindi, or Arabic layout. Use the guide for your chosen method.
Pause when needed
Keep the keyboard and screen at a comfortable distance. Change position and take sensible breaks. If an activity causes discomfort, stop and adjust rather than trying to improve a score through discomfort.
Your next step
Choose one action from this guide for your next practice. Keep the settings comparable and review what actually changed.
